Wisconsin Democrats were quick to cash in on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement, turning the celebrity news into a political fundraising pitch.
Just hours after the pop star and Kansas City Chiefs tight end announced their engagement, the Wisconsin State Senate Democratic Committee blasted out a fundraising email urging donors to send money.
The message, first reported locally, opened with “THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!” and framed the celebrity romance as an opportunity to raise campaign dollars.
“In a time when we are being bombarded with negative news, we welcome this moment of celebration. You know what will make this day even better?” the email read, before tying the couple’s engagement to the political fortunes of Democrats in the state legislature.
Apparently Wisconsin Democrats are not aware that Taylor Swift is one of those billionaires that they are constantly railing against. Provides an excellent demonstration of the shallowness of our local left. pic.twitter.com/bnEgHrhb0b

“If we got a step closer to FLIPPING the Wisconsin State Senate blue for the first time in a decade.”
The committee asked potential donors, “Will you join us in celebrating this moment by rushing $20.26 today and help Taylor’s party win next November?”
The email even attempted to tie in Swift’s music, misquoting her 2010 hit “Long Live” with the line, “long live the walls we crash through.” The actual lyric is “long live the walls we crashed through.”

Her political endorsements in recent years have been high-profile, as she backed Joe Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris in 2024.
In a post last fall, Swift told her massive fan base, “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
“I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” she added.

Despite Swift’s political leanings, the Pennsylvania-born singer has never publicly shown interest in Wisconsin Democratic politics, making the committee’s attempt to raise funds off her engagement even more conspicuous.
Reaction to the celebrity news poured in from lawmakers. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a Missouri Democrat, quipped, “Travis is about to get two rings in one year. Congratulations to the lucky couple.”
He followed up on social media with another message: “Happy to do the ceremony — just let me know.”

Sen. Jim Banks, a Republican from Indiana, congratulated the couple while highlighting President Trump’s policy goals.
“President Trump campaigned on making it easier to start families and he’s delivered once again. Congrats, Travis and Taylor!” Banks wrote.
President Trump has often criticized Swift, recently declaring she was “no longer hot” after her endorsement of Harris.
But following the engagement announcement, his sentiment seems to have shifted.
When asked during a Wednesday White House cabinet meeting about the news, Trump said, “Well, I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player, he’s a great guy. And I think that she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio injected humor into the discussion, joking that marriages during college football season should be restricted.
“This thing about people getting married on Saturdays during college football season is a scourge, Mr. President. It’s dividing families. I don’t know if we can have an Executive Order on this, it’s insane, but it’s really difficult,” Rubio said.
“You know, there’s seven other months of the year people can get married, so I just wanted to say that. It’s very, very difficult.”
THANK YOU.

Kelce quickly found himself under fire for launching a clothing line just a day after the engagement news broke.
The NFL star announced his American Eagle x Tru Kolors collection Wednesday morning, unveiling the line on social media.
In the promotional video, Kelce steps out of a car dressed in a cream sweater and white pants, later joining other athletes featured in the campaign.

Fans were quick to accuse him of using the engagement to boost sales. “So this was all a marketing stunt?” one user commented.
Another wrote, “A new album, an engagement, and a collab. A cynic might think this was all about business.”
Kelce responded by saying the fashion deal had been in the works for nearly a year.
The collection, dubbed “AE x TK,” also features young sports stars including basketball guard Azzi Fudd, tennis player Anna Frey, college football quarterback Drew Allar, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, NBA prospect Kiyan Anthony, and Olympic gold medal gymnast Suni Lee.
The celebrity fanfare extended beyond politics and product launches. Lifestyle mogul Martha Stewart added her name to the conversation, posting on social media about Swift and Kelce’s engagement.

She shared a photo from the announcement alongside a video of herself sipping wine.
“The nectar of the Gods,” Stewart declared in the clip. She captioned her post, “It’s time to call in the ultimate wedding planner.”
