New Book Claims Biden Forgot His Biggest Celebrity Supporter

A new book from a pair of liberal media stars revealed how far former President Joe Biden mentally declined during his final months in office.

One of the most jarring accounts comes from a June 2024 fundraiser in Los Angeles, where Biden appeared not to recognize megastar George Clooney at a Hollywood fundraiser the actor was hosting for the then-president’s 2024 campaign.

The book, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, written by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, claims the incident occurred shortly after Biden’s return from a trip to Italy for the G7 summit.

According to the authors, Biden looked “severely diminished, as if he’d aged a decade” since Clooney last met with him in December 2022.

When Clooney greeted him backstage, the situation reportedly grew disturbingly uncomfortable.

“You know George,” an aide quietly prompted the then-president. “Yeah, yeah,” Biden replied. “Thank you for being here.”

Tapper and Thompson laid out the incident bluntly, “It seemed clear that the President had not recognized Clooney.”

This moment, occurring just days before Biden’s disastrous debate with then-candidate Donald Trump, reportedly shook Clooney.

“It was not okay,” said one Hollywood insider who witnessed the exchange. “That thing, the moment where you recognize someone you know—especially a famous person who’s doing a f**king fundraiser for you—it was delayed. It was uncomfortable.”

According to the book, this event played a major role in motivating Clooney to publicly call on Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race.

Weeks later, Clooney published an op-ed stating, “We are not going to win in November with this president. On top of that, we won’t win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate. This isn’t only my opinion; this is the opinion of every senator and congress member and governor that I’ve spoken with in private. Every single one, irrespective of what he or she is saying publicly.”

Before publishing, Clooney reportedly contacted former President Barack Obama, who warned that going public would likely cause Biden to “dig in his heels deeper.”

Clooney then circulated the op-ed among party insiders in Hollywood. Major Democratic donor Jeffrey Katzenberg, who co-organized the fundraiser, passed it to Biden adviser Steve Ricchetti.

“Ricchetti read it and was furious,” the book claims. “Internally, he threatened to shut Clooney down — some of his colleagues thought he sounded like a Mob boss.”

Katzenberg reportedly tried to talk Clooney out of releasing the op-ed, citing Biden’s jet lag and arguing that the criticism was not fair.

Clooney reportedly agreed it “wasn’t fair,” but told Katzenberg, “what he had written was accurate.”

Speaking to Tapper last month in an interview, Clooney reflected on the moment.

“Well, I don’t know if it was brave, it was a civic duty,” he said. “I’m a Democrat in Kentucky, so I get it. When I saw people on my side of the street not telling the truth, I thought that was time to (say something).”

After Biden eventually bowed out of the race, Clooney praised the decision as “the most selfless thing that anybody’s done since George Washington.”

Tapper asked whether people were still angry with him over the op-ed. “Some people, sure,” Clooney replied.

“You have to take a stand if you believe in it. Take a stand, stand for it and then deal with the consequences. That’s the rules.”

Clooney compared the backlash to his earlier opposition to the Iraq War. “When people criticize me — they’ve criticized me because of my stance against the war 20 years ago, and some people picketed my movies,” he remarked.

“I have to take that. I’m okay with criticism for where I stand. I defend their right to criticize me as much as I defend my right to criticize them.”

Tapper and Thompson’s book documents other disturbing details about Biden’s condition in the final year of his presidency, including physical issues that forced staff to adapt his routines.

According to the authors, Biden’s team was deeply concerned about his “halting walk,” especially after he fell over a sandbag during a 2023 appearance at the Air Force Academy.

“Biden’s physical deterioration — most apparent in his halting walk — had become so severe that there were internal discussions about putting the president in a wheelchair, but they couldn’t do so until after the election,” the authors claimed.

Drastic adjustments followed, including shorter walking paths, increased use of sneakers, handrails installed for stage entrances, and briefings designed to guide the president through each step of an event.

Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, reportedly warned that another serious fall could force the president into a wheelchair, making recovery far more difficult.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, it was revealed that a small nodule had been discovered in Biden’s prostate during a recent physical exam. The finding reportedly “necessitated further evaluation.”

Biden’s alleged condition backstage in Los Angeles wasn’t the only event to raise alarm.

Tapper and Thompson argue that the president’s closest aides knew of his decline but refused to acknowledge it publicly.

“Until the last day of his presidency, Biden and those in his innermost circle refused to admit the reality that his energy, cognitive skills, and communication capacity had faltered significantly,” they wrote. “Even worse, through various means, they tried to hide it.”
